Echoes of the Mission: Province of France
Solidarity across the seas!
“If someone has the means to live and sees his brother or sister in need but closes his or her heart to them, how can he or she claim to love God? Let us not love in words, with fine speeches; let us show true love that is manifested by actions! “(1 Jn 3:17-18). These two sentences from the first letter of St. John are essential and summarize our philosophy and our way of life in the family of the Presentation of Mary in France. To love God is to love the other, this face that challenges me, speaks to me and makes me take my share of responsibility in the present of our lives.
More concretely, we can affirm that our educational network, with its fifty-one schools, is attentive to the miseries that run through our society and societies elsewhere. This particular attention, to the most fragile and deprived, is aroused and encouraged within the network, by the Marie Rivier Solidarity Association which promotes an education in mutual aid.
There are no boundaries to solidarity, which is why, during Lent, solidarity actions were proposed in order to finance the projects of the Association. This year, the challenge was twofold: to help the Ana Maria Rivier school in Brazil, for accessibility work and to bring it up to standard, and to contribute to the construction of a kiosk for the Presentation of Mary home in Mozambique. Thanks in particular to the operation “bowl of rice” – which mobilized thousands of people in the schools – both challenges have been met and will be able to be realized.
In sharing, there is no such thing as a “small” gesture. The gift cannot be reduced to its materiality. It is an urge of the heart that comes from God and leads us to Him because: “As many times as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me” (Mt 25:40). Thank you all for so much fraternity and generosity that lifts us up and makes us divine.
