PRESENTATION GIRLS VOCATIONAL SCHOOL (PGVS)

CELEBRATES 50 YEARS

Presentation Girls Vocational School is a Catholic training center run and owned by the Presentation of Mary Sisters.  The school was established in 1972 by Sr. Cecilia Lanovaz.  Presentation Girls Vocational School (PGVS) focuses on helping women who are underprivileged by providing them with basic education and skills that would allow them to become self-employed and/or develop a career that will improve their quality of life.  It is a school that offers an empowerment program for women.  This program helps these young women develop skills that will enable them to overcome economic and social problems.

Education is a powerful tool that the Sisters use to empower these women.  Through education these women are given the opportunity for life-long learning. They are helped to find their passion and what they want to be in life.  They are exposed to different types of activities and career learning that can bring about change in their lives.  The program offered to them helps improve the women’s sense of wellbeing, self-esteem and self-efficacy and teaches them good communication skills.

Educators at PGVS, help these women become better readers and writers, build self-confidence to express themselves, develop their skills in art work, tailoring, hairdressing, facial treatment, manicure and pedicure and secretarial work.   Leadership behaviors are encouraged as students are given opportunities to take on a variety of responsibilities. This empowerment program helps them acquire knowledge on how to run a business, how to manage their homes, personal hygiene and how to become independent women.  It enables these women to become self-supportive and creative and offers them the skills and the knowledge needed to face the challenges of life in today’s world.

To God be the glory.
