RELAUNCHING OF THE MEAL AND SNACKS PROJECT<\/strong><\/h2>\n

 <\/strong>Holy Cross College of Calinan, a Presentation of Mary School in the Philippines, is a school family of evangelizers rooted in the spirit of Blessed Marie Rivier. As a family of evangelizers, this year we have relaunched the MEAL AND SNACKS PROJECT. It aims to concretize the school\u2019s Vision-Mission particularly the challenge to be compassionate, loving and socially responsive.   <\/em>This Project is a concrete application of the call of Pope Francis to go out of one\u2019s comfort zone by reaching out to the peripheries and sharing our 3Ts \u2013 Talent, Time and Treasure to the 3Ls \u2013 the Least, the Last and the Lost. The project\u2019s theme is: HCCC: Compassionate like Marie Rivier.<\/em>  <\/p>\n

How do we make this project a reality?<\/p>\n

First, we identified the \u201cleast\u201d in the community.  They are the students of HCCC Saturday School Program who belong to poor families. These students are working to earn their school fees and other school needs. Often, they come to school without breakfast and without money to buy food to fill their empty stomachs. We also identified the street children in the town who beg for their food in the marketplaces and in the Churches.<\/p>\n

ngg_shortcode_0_placeholderSecond, we raised funds by encouraging each student to save a small amount from their school allowance. They drop their savings in the school\u2019s donation boxes and this amount helps to financially sustain the project. We are grateful for their generosity.<\/p>\n

The meal we serve is called \u201cPASTIL\u201d and the snack we provide is bread with fruit juice. PASTIL is rice cooked with meat, wrapped in banana leaves to serve individually. On Saturdays, the prepared food is distributed among the street children and the poor students. The members of the different school academic clubs, religious and civic organizations take turn in serving the meal and snacks. <\/p>\n
