Educating in the New Normal: <\/strong>Ingenuity answers Necessity<\/strong><\/h2>\n

When Filipinos see a great need, they become ingenious. When Christians feel there is no way, they trust in God. With the hardships of educating the young during this pandemic, the words of Marie Rivier, the Woman Apostle, echo in the hearts of her daughters, \u201cno difficulty should turn us away from it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without a stable internet connection, the \u2018no face-to-face classes\u2019 policy of the Philippines\u2019 Department of Education challenged many schools such as Holy Cross of Malalag and Holy Cross of Malita. However, the Filipino resiliency to hardships gives way to creativity and ingenuity. Without going against the health protocols and guidelines of the Inter-Agency Task Force against the New Corona Virus 2019 (IATF-COVID 19), these Presentation of Mary Schools in the Diocese of Digos continue their mission of education.<\/p>\n

             Both schools use the blended learning delivery mode<\/strong>. It is a combination of printed activity sheets<\/strong> and online classes<\/strong> which are asynchronous<\/strong>. The printed activity sheets are teacher-generated, self-learning materials which are based on the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) issued by the Department of Education. These activity sheets are delivered weekly and are also retrieved weekly. The asynchronous online meeting between the teachers and the learners will be according to the availability of the learners\u2019 internet connection.<\/p>\n

ngg_shortcode_0_placeholder              The process of preparing the activity sheets involve thorough checking, packing and distribution. In Holy Cross of Malita, the activity sheets are brought to the far-flung villages in the mountains. Teachers travel every Monday morning to the pick-up areas where the parents get the activity sheets for their children.<\/p>\n

              For Holy Cross of Malalag, the parents claim their activity sheets in the school\u2019s Annex building every Sunday morning, before or after they attend the Holy Mass.<\/p>\n

              The schools also take care of the spiritual, physical and mental health of the employees. Liturgical activities and other celebrations such as the World Teachers\u2019 Day and the Season of Creation are creatively observed to care for their emotional and social well-being.<\/p>\n
