Perpetual Profession of Sr. Harriet Mendy<\/span><\/h2>\n

Religious life is a pure gift from God, a grace that God has been given to Sr. Harriet. This is what we celebrated today with Sr. Harriet Mendy who pronounced her definitive yes to the call of God. It is beautiful to give one\u2019s life to God for always.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"On the eve of the perpetual profession, the sisters of the Region of the Gambia gathered before Vespers to welcome Sr. Harriet Mendy into the family of the Presentation of Mary. In our African culture, when a young girl is ready for marriage, the elders sit her down and encourage her to be a good wife.  This culture was adopted by the Sisters of the Region to give counsel to the bride of Christ and encourage her to fix her gaze on Jesus. In all things, give thanks to God. To serve God is the purpose of our existence.<\/span><\/p>\n

With thanksgiving to God, meaningful symbols were presented to Sr. Harriet during the vigil prayer. One of these was the “Malan\u201d which holds an important place in African culture. During the celebration of final profession, Sr. Harriet Mendy will be covered with a triple coloured woven cloth, as a pure gift for Christ. Each colour has its symbolic meaning: white for purity, faith, and humility; red for love, passion, and dedication and black for trust in the unknown.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, November 21, 2020, during the celebration of the Eucharistic Sr. Harriet pronounced, before the Church and the community, her definitive yes to God and dedicated herself to the perpetual service of God. Sr. Harriet will strive to be a pure and stainless bride of Christ and she will trust in God till death. This day brought so much joy and hope to the Sisters of the Gambia, to our Associates, and collaborators, and in a special way, to her family and friends.<\/span><\/p>\n

ngg_shortcode_0_placeholderOn the same day, as in the entire family of the Presentation of Mary Sisters, the Regional Superior, Sr. Marie Solange Badji, opened the door of the \u201cYear of Thanksgiving\u201d as we prepare to celebrate the 225 years of foundation of the Congregation on November 21, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the evening Sr. Harriet Mendy consecrated herself to the Virgin Mary and Marie Rivier, and all the sisters renewed their vows. For all the blessings received, we give thanks. We thank Rev. Mother Maria dos Anjos Alves, for her powerful message for the opening of our Year of Thanksgiving. To God be the Glory.<\/span><\/p>\n
