In Mindanao, particularly in Davao City, the importance of mangrove planting has become increasingly clear as climate change, coastal erosion, and habitat destruction threaten the region&#8217;s biodiversity and local communities. With its extensive coastline and rich marine resources, the Philippines is taking active steps to restore and protect its mangrove ecosystems through community-driven initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>One such initiative was conducted last March 16, 2025. The Sisters planted 3,000 mangrove seedlings at 2 o&#8217;clock in the afternoon along the coastal area of Matina Aplaya during the lowest ebb of the tide. The planting began with a prayer and a blessing of the soil. With music playing in the background, the Sisters dug into the sandy and muddy shore. Although it was hard work, they were filled with joy, making it an afternoon of fun and camaraderie!<\/p>\n<p>For the PM Sisters, mangrove planting is not just a celebration of their 75th anniversary; it is also an environmental initiative and a reflection of their spiritual and moral commitment to caring for creation. By uniting the efforts of various local communities in the province, we aim to foster sustainable coastal management in Davao City. As these initiatives progress, mangrove forests will not only offer environmental protection but also serve as a symbol of resilience and unity among the PM Sisters. As Pope Francis reminds us, we are called to be stewards of God\u2019s creation and to embody the vision of \u2018Laudato Si&#8217;\u2019.
