MARIE RIVIER: A Face to discover

A Testimony

Part V

MRS. ELIZABETH TUYCO

“I was a high school teacher at Holy Cross of Malita when I became a Marie Rivier Associate.

On February 1996, all the MRAs in the Philippines had an assembly. It has been 10 years since my last pregnancy and I would like to have another baby, a baby girl… This is the silent longing of my heart. During the pilgrimage to different Roman Catholic churches, We prayed the rosary and offered our own intentions. My prayer was only one, repeated in each church we visited: “Dear Lord God, Mama Mary, Blessed Marie Rivier, please hear me, please bless me once more with a child, this time a girl, please not a boy again. I have two already, just give a boy to those who are longing for it, have pity on me. You know how much I love you. Please grant my prayer as you answered Blessed Marie Rivier with many miracles and blessings.”

That evening I heard many testimonies on Marie Rivier’s intercessions, which made me so hopeful that my prayer will also be granted…that night I fervently talked to Blessed Marie Rivier to intercede for me and I promised that I will name the baby girl after her if my prayer will be granted.

Soon after, I became pregnant. I announced to everyone my pregnancy and told them that she would be a girl and her name would be RIVIANNE. My friends requested that I should undergo an ultrasound test to know the gender of my baby but I refused. I wanted to wait for my baby’s birth.

On November 6, 1996,  my baby girl was born…an answered prayer. It was the year of the bicentennial anniversary of the PM Foundation. In honor of Blessed Marie Rivier, and true to my promise, I named my baby girl Rivianne.

Aside from being given the gift of life, we are also blessed by God having the gift of sight. The gift of seeing the world the beautiful world around us and how it is wonderfully made and how uniquely crafted by God for us. Growing up, I am raised in a family where we always see to it that God is the first. I was in high school when I became part of the MEYE ( Marie Rivier Young Evangelizers) and there I get to know more about the life of Blessed Anne-Marie Rivier. It was like seeing the world in another point of view. It was a positive one and I am truly grateful to know such a woman of great faith. Among all her virtues, I was really inspired with her perseverance and her great faith to our Lord. This has touched my life that a a professional eye care provider, Blessed Marie Rivier’s values became my inspiration to be more passionate to what I am doing.

“Everyone may have two eyes but not everyone sees the same view”.  I am grateful to see how great is the goodness of our Lord to each one of us and I hope that like Blessed Anne-Marie Rivier we can make Jesus known and loved.
