Echoes of the Mission: Province of the Philippines
70 years of Presence in the Isle of Mary
1950 – 26 October – 2020
“One day my daughters will cross the seas”. These very words of our foundress Blessed Marie Rivier came to fruition in the Pacific when in October 26,1950 four missionary sisters from the Manchester Province, USA arrived in one of the islands in Siasi, named Jolo, of the Sulu Archipelago in the Philippines. The four zealous missionaries who dared to cross the wide seas were, Sister Saint-Pauline, Sister Saint-Laurentienne, Sister Saint-Nathalie, and Sister Saint-Marie des Anges. They were warmly welcomed by Reverend Father George Dion, OMI, who then became the Bishop of Jolo. (please click here to watch the video history of the foundation.)
Grateful and Faithful for the gift of zeal, we celebrated in thanksgiving this beautiful occasion of our 70th foundation anniversary with a Eucharistic celebration presided by Most Rev. Guillermo Afable, of the Diocese of Digos. In his homily, he thanked the sisters for their service to the Church and continues to challenge them to say “Here I am Lord, send me”.‘
Its’ been 70 years since the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary has been present in the islands of Mindanao and Visayas serving in five Dioceses namely, Archdiocese of Davao, Diocese of Digos, Diocese of Cotabato, Diocese of Borongan and Diocese of Tagbilaran. In 2008, the Philippine Province accepted to take over the responsibility of the Perpetual Adoration ministry in the Diocese of Elphin in Sligo, Ireland. With 9 schools, an orphanage, retreat house, spirituality center and perpetual adoration apostolate, the sisters zealously make Jesus Christ known and loved everywhere and, motivated to be joyful witnesses of the Gospel.
As we move forward in hope, we rely on the maternal care of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the spirit of zeal that Blessed Marie Rivier has left us. May our mission to make Jesus Christ known and loved forever remain as our passion and inspiration to help build the world, our common home.
All for God, All through Holy Love!
