May the 27th

The General Chapter is an ecclesial event where the participants are gathered in the name of Jesus Christ. In His name, the Chapter has a task to discern the promptings of the Holy Spirit to be faithful to our Foundress’ Charism and make it relevant in the world of the 21st century. Living discernment abundantly during the Chapter, begins today…

The meeting began with a prayer prepared by sister Charito Gorgonio using the elements of the General Chapter logo: the globe, the Holy Spirit, the green cross, the heart and Saint Marie Rivier.

We were delighted to review the video presentation of the participants.

Sister Marian Murcia, the Chapter Moderator, gave an introduction to the process of discernment at the General Chapter.  We are gathered in the name of Christ, and the Chapter is a privileged moment of discernment.  Deep listening is an attitude to have, as well as attention to dialogue, because truth takes on different faces and no one possesses the whole truth.  It’s important to be able to express one’s own opinions  and at the same, capable of letting go.

We need to be attentive to our prejudices, our blockages, our resistances that can prevent us from listening to God’s Spirit and to what gives us more faith, hope and love. We pay attention to consolations and desolations to discover which direction the Spirit is pointing us.  This discernment requires us to be well-informed about the signs of the times, world events, and the various contexts in which we live, in order to seek the common good for the Congregation.  We are learning to move from “I” to “We”, because the Congregation is a body and we are aware of our common vocation, our charism and our mission.

We shared in small groups about our experience of discernment and how our understanding of discernment has evolved over the years.  Let’s not be afraid of the future and let’s live in confidence.  We pray for each other to live the Chapter in freedom, love and peace.

At the end, Mother Maria dos Anjos Alves thanked Sister Charito and Sister Marian for their contributions.  With the Spirit, we can dream high from concrete reality to love more and better.  On this Vigil of Pentecost, let us move forward in the holiness of our vocation, towards what God wants for us today.

We end the meeting by singing the Salve Regina!
