INTERCULTURALITY Part II

The mass was held in the morning and as usual we shared breakfast together.

We started the session with a song to the Holy Spirit and then the Word of  God from Ezekiel 36, 26.

I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you.

I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

This morning, we took on what we have left out yesterday as the plenary sharing of the case study…after each one had shared we move on the second day of the session of Sr. Adriana, ssps.

Our speaker invited us to look in scripture at Jesus’s journey, moving from an ethnocentric perspective to an intercultural perspective. We looked at Jesus’ Jewish culture and how he gradually developed an intercultural perspective through his interactions with those who were “other” to him as a Jewish man. The scripture passages used by S Adriana were the story of Jesus’ conversation with a Canaanite woman who had asked Jesus to heal her daughter; the story of Good Samaritan and finally story of the Samaritan Woman at the well. The movement to intercultural living call to conversion because it requires a radical conversion toward cultural differences. (S Adriana, ssps.)

We then took time of prayer with our rule of life to try and see where our spirituality and charism speak to us about interculturality. In the plenary, we were given space to share our insights.

We also discussed what challenges we must face and what we must be ready to let go of in order to start living truly intercultural communities. We all find this question challenging but important. After the sharing, we took time to listen to one another’s report of the discussion.

To conclude the sessions, Sr. Soledad thanked S Adriana for her expertise and availability.
