CELEBRATION OF 225 YEARS OF FOUNDATION

With Mary, let us praise and give thanks to God for the 225 years of foundation of our Congregation. 225 years of presence and service. What a blessing! It was truly worth celebrating! As a Region we celebrated this great achievement with real thanksgiving and praise to our God, to our Foundress and to our dearest Mother, our Lady of the Presentation, for all the sisters who through the ages faithfully served God in this family.

The celebrations began with a vigil prayer on Friday, the 19th November, 2021 at 6pm. Present at this vigil were our Associates, workers, hostel girls and aspirants. For this celebration all wore T-shirts printed with the logo. A statue of the Virgin Mary and a bouquet of flowers were carried by two girls. During the procession we recited the rosary with songs to Mary and the litanies of the Blessed Virgin Mary. At the entrance of Shalom we sang a Marian song, accompanied with clapping, dancing and waving of handkerchiefs.

The second part of our celebration was a time of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Individuals processed with symbols of thanksgiving accompanied by music and commentaries. The symbols were: an Icon of Blessed Anne Marie Rivier, the Word of God, the Cross, incense, and a basket of fruits. At the end of the prayer, supper was served, followed by entertainment.  It was truly colorful and prayerful.

The climax of our celebration was on Saturday, November 20th.  We began with Mass at 10am at St. Therese’s Parish Church. The main celebrant was Fr. Anthony Gabisi, parish priest of our first parish when we founded in The Gambia. The celebration of the Mass was really an expression of thanksgiving. After the opening prayer, individuals dressed in traditional attire processed with lighted candles, representing Christ the light of the world, an icon of the Presentation of Mary in the Temple, a picture of Blessed Anne Marie Rivier, and the globe. During the Mass some young girls danced, gracefully and with rhythm, the Gospel Acclamation and the Offertory Procession.  As a hymn of thanksgiving the sisters sang a hymn to our Blessed Foundress after Holy Communion. Before the closing prayer, Sr. Marie Solange Badji (Regional Superior) gave a remarkable word of thanks. She left no stone untouched thanking our collaborators in the vineyard, our teachers, students, workers and all who made our celebrations beautiful and meaningful. At the end of the Mass we all proceeded to Shalom for the thanksgiving meal. Our hostel girls and students from our schools entertained the guests. It was really a beautiful and joyful day.

Finally on Sunday, November 21st, feast of the Presentation of Mary, the sisters of the Region and the hostel girls prayed Lauds together. During this celebration, Sr. Marie Gibba renewed her vows. We then attended Mass at the Church of Holy Family, Bakau and had lunch together.
