PRESENTATION GIRLS VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

Presentation Girls Vocational School is a Catholic Formation Center run and owned by the Presentation of Mary Sisters in The Gambia.  The school was established in 1972 by Sr. Cecilia Lanovaz.  Presentation Girls Vocational School (PGVS), focuses on helping underprivileged women by providing them with basic education and skills that will allow them to become self-employed and develop a career that will improve their quality of life.  It is a school that offers empowerment programs for women.  These programs help young women develop skills that enable them overcome economic and social problems.

Education is a powerful tool that the Sisters use to empower these women.  Through education they are given the opportunity of life-long learning through the skills they acquire.  They are helped to find their passion and what they want to be in life.  They are exposed to different activities where skills and career learning can influence and change their lives.  The programs offered to them help improve their wellbeing, self-esteem, efficiency and communication skills.

Educators at PGVS, help these women become better readers and writers, build self-confidence to express themselves, develop their skills in art works, tailoring, hairdressing, facial treatment, manicure, pedicure and secretarial work.   Leadership behaviors are encouraged where students are given opportunity to take responsibilities. This helps them acquire knowledge on how to run a business, how to manage their homes, personal hygiene, and how to become independent women.  The empowerment program enables these women to become self-supportive, creative and gives them the skills to acquire the knowledge needed to face the challenges of life.

To God be the Glory.
