50 Years of Presence in the Gambia

GOLDEN JUBILEE CLOSING CELEBRATION

29th December, 2018

At the climax and closing of our jubilee year, our hearts are full of joy for God’s wonderful work in our Region. Yes, everything is possible with God. Our Blessed Mother Rivier tells us that we should give thanks because of the joy we find in the greatness and mercy of our God. The sisters of the Region of The Gambia today give thanks to God for everything He has done for us since its foundation in 1968. We had a beautiful Eucharistic celebration officiated by the Bishop of Banjul, Bishop Gabriel Mendy. This was followed by a festive meal at Shalom grounds where all who attended the mass were invited to share with the sisters. This day was celebrated with much entertainment: dancing, singing, skit of Anne Marie Rivier and other performances.

Celebrating 50 years gave us the greatest joy to appreciate the Province of France, who gave us our foundress Blessed Anne Marie Rivier. They gave us unmeasurable support since our inception. The Province of France is our ‘Grandmother’. The Province of Senegal, our Mother, suckled us, nurtured us and finally gave our hand in marriage. We thank them for the time we were together as a Region. They gave us all that could be given to a child and we appreciate everything. We are grateful to our sisters in the USA, Prince Albert Canada and the Philippines whose contributions have made it possible for us to celebrate 50 years of presence in The Gambia today. Thank you for providing sisters to help us in the work of evangelization of the Gambian Church.

We thank you all for your prayers and support in this great event. Our special gratitude goes to Rev. Mother Maria dos Anjos Alves, our Superior General and her Assistant, Sr. Charito Gorgonio, Sr. Jane Wilkinson, Provincial Superior of France, Sr. Louise Dioh, Provincial Superior of Senegal and all our sisters from the Province of Senegal for gracing this special occasion with your presence.

To God be the Glory. All for God, through holy love.
