Dear Sisters of the Mission of Japan,

It is with great joy and a grateful heart that I come to you today to wish you a wonderful celebration of 70 years of the presence of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Japan.

70 years ago the daughters of Marie Rivier crossed the seas and since then have touched the hearts and lives of   so many in Japan.                        

70 years – making Jesus Christ known and loved  

70 years – touching the lives of children and youth as educators

70 years – living the spirit of Marie Rivier                                                                                    

                    A spirit of prayer 
                    A spirit of zeal
                    A spirit of compassion                                                                                                                    

70 years of creative fidelity to a mission that brought with it so many challenges and so much joy

70 years where the flame of love and zeal was passed from one generation to the next.

And today, the Mission of Japan continues to celebrate and rejoice as it sees how the seed that was sown during these 70 years has born much fruit and continues to germinate with new life in the young sisters who have come from Vietnam. They also have crossed the seas, attracted by the spirit of the Woman-Apostle.

Today, as you sing Mary’s Magnificat, may your hearts be filled with wonder and gratitude for all that the Lord has done with you and for you over these 70 years. May Mary, our Mother, continue to watch over you and invite you always to “move forward in HOPE”.
