Echoes of the Mission : Philippine Province
GIVING IS CARING
Every year the Marie Rivier Associates of the Philippine Province holds its annual convention. The MRA Convention 2020 was cancelled, and instead we organized a reach-out event to the earthquake victims in the village of Upper Malinao, Padada. The town of Padada was the epicenter of the earthquake which struck the region of Davao on December 15, 2019.
On February 8, 2020, inspired by Marie Rivier’s love for the poor of Christ, various groups of the MR Associates travelled, with the Sisters, to Davao del Sur to bring food supplies to the families. The signs of destruction caused by the earthquake are still evident in the area. The Sisters and Associates held a celebration of the Word of God and shared inspiring thoughts on the life of Blessed Marie Rivier. They also told the story of Marinette’s life, and had games and even some live entertainment! Everyone was happy to come to know one another and expressed gratitude for the visit of the PM Sisters and MR Associates. At the end, each one received a rosary, an image of Blessed Marie Rivier and a bag with food supplies and goodies for the children.
February 8, 2020 was a remarkable day for all of us as we shared the spirit of our Foundress Marie Rivier. This day was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the MRA and the Sisters involved in Marie Rivier Heart and Hands, a solidarity project of the Province. We also thank our donors: the families of the Sisters and the MRAs, friends, and the PM Alumni Association, who have been generous in extending their hearts and hands to us — a wonderful gesture of teamwork!
A special thanks to the Marie Rivier Associates and the Sisters of Padada for their warm hospitality and for a hearty meal!
