Marie Rivier, A Face To Discover with the Children
The face of Marie Rivier discovered by the children was amazing, full of life and joy. On February 3, the Feast of Blessed Marie Rivier was celebrated and honored by the school children of Anne Marie Rivier Basic Cycle School (AMR). The day began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
AMR school was founded in September 2007. It is located in the West Coast Region. AMR School is a Basic Cycle ranging from grade one to nine and responds to the academic needs of the students. On February 3rd, the school administration, children, parents, and the community gathered to celebrate Blessed Marie Rivier. In this moment of celebration, the children learned more about the life of Marie Rivier, sang Marie Rivier songs, and acted out the story of her life. It was a moment to give thanks to God for Marie Rivier who loved children and educated them. Mother Rivier has become an inspiration for the children because, through her life, they discovered the importance of education, love, honesty, faith, and prayer.
It was a joyful moment for the children as they discovered another face of Marie Rivier: the face of creativity. The children celebrated this day with singing, dancing Gospel songs, dramatization on the reality of Covid-19, cultural displays, a quiz on the life of Marie Rivier, spelling and other performances. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions it could not be a full day celebration but nevertheless food and drink were served.
The school has a refrain on the life of Marie Rivier which the children sing every week at our School Assembly. Every week also, we conduct lessons with the children where we teach moral values and religious virtues. The school population is 90% Muslim but we also teach Gospel values. The children of AMR will continue to discover the face of Marie Rivier, their Mother.
