Being A PM Sister

Being a PM Sister

In the history of France during the 18th century, when all the former monasteries lay in ruins, a humble woman, Marie Rivier, with her four companions, opened a small school in Thueyts in 1794. From the very beginning, Marie Rivier intended to consecrate herself and her companions to the service of evangelization and the practice of charity. She continued to invite women to join her, “Let us come together …”

The Congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary was officially established on November 21, 1796. Marie Rivier and her first four companions consecrated themselves to God, under the patronage of Blessed Virgin Mary, not only themselves, but the Congregation, their students, their house and their works! (p. 99 Mourret)

The first Sisters of the Presentation of Mary were:  Marie Rivier (Foundress), Thérèse Chaudanson, Marie Eyraud, Jeanne Delubac, and Martine Teston.

We are Sisters of the Presentation of Mary (PM) called to live and fulfill, at the heart of the world, our mission as consecrated persons, as recognized for us by the Church. Our Gospel identity is rooted in two mysteries:  the Presentation of Mary in the Temple, mystery of the presence of God and the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, mystery of the self-offering of Jesus and that of his Mother Mary. (D3)

As we live these two mysteries in our daily lives we reflect what Jesus and Mary lived so intensely: a spirit of adoration, self-offering and compassion.

Being a PM Sister...

is to live a wholly interior spirit rooted in the spirit of Jesus Christ. (C3) All for God! All Through Holy Love! This is the expression that embodies the meaning and relevance of being a PM Sister in the world today.

Being a PM Sister...

is to live in fraternal communities. We form one family holding all things in common and we have but one heart and one mind in Christ Jesus.

Being a PM Sister...

is to live an apostolic zeal that knows no boundaries, neither that of race nor of peoples. As long as there is a corner of the world where Jesus Christ is neither known nor loved, we, the daughters of the Woman Apostle cannot be at rest.

Being a PM Sister...

is to live like Mary, dwelling in the presence of God.  In the temple of the Presentation we want to live with Mary in the presence of God.  We are at the heart of the mystery of the Temple, of the mystery of God’s presence.
