“Let us Come Together.” Blessed Marie Rivier

It is the “let us come together” that led a delegation of forty-three Marie Rivier Associates and five sisters from the Gambia to join in the weekend’s program of the Associates in Rufisque, Senegal.

The associates from the Gambia joined their fellow associates of Senegal on Friday, around 10 pm. The journey was long but very fruitful. At the beginning of the journey, the associates encountered crosses and carried them with faith and hope. The bus that was to take them to Senegal had a breakdown just before reaching Banjul which made the journey longer and challenging. “Where there is pain there is gain.” The associates were not discouraged but trusted in the grace of God and through the intercession of Blessed Marie Rivier.  After all the prayers, the associates reached their destination. On their journey to Senegal, they expressed their joy by praying the holy rosary, singing praises to God, and dancing.

As part of the activities, the associates went for a pilgrimage to the junior seminary at Ngasobil, Senegal. The pilgrimage began with the Eucharistic celebration, in commemoration of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. After the mass, Sr. Marie Therese Maaz, gave a talk on the importance of silence, prayer, and adoration. The session was very interactive and profound.

Some of the associates shared their testimonies of lived faith experiences. Due to the limited time, not all who wanted to give testimony were able to do so. In the end, we prayed the Divine Mercy chaplet. After lunch, there was entertainment accompanied by dancing. The day ended with a procession to the grotto and the recitation of the holy rosary.

The weekend activities were crowned with a thanksgiving mass, celebrated by Abbe Vivien in the big and beautiful chapel of Mount Tabor. This was the first time that the celebration of Holy Mass took place in this new chapel. After holy communion, the associates recited the prayer for the canonization of Mother Rivier followed by the exchange of gifts between the Gambia and Senegal. We shared a very festive meal and a well-animated recreation.

The Gambian associates left Rufisque on Sunday night and arrived in The Gambia during the early hours of Monday.

The weekend was worth going to; very interactive and fruitful. We, the Sisters and the Associates of both countries are very grateful for this experience. It is the desire of the associates to make this gathering an annual event.

The associates register their sincere appreciation to Sr. Louise Dioh and her Council, the community of Mount Tabor, and the Novitiate community for their hospitality and tireless services. Our special gratitude to Sr. Madeleine Thiaw, Coordinator of the associates in Senegal, for the energy and sacrifices she has done in organizing the gathering. We have everything we need and feel at home. Jarama! Merci beaucoup à toutes!

MAY THE WILL OF GOD BE ACCOMPLISHED IN ALL THINGS!
